About Me
Nathanael Robertson (he/him)
- Licensed Clinical Social Worker
Hi! My name is Nathanael Robertson and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Texas (License #108075). Holding both a Bachelors and Masters degree in social work, I have spent the past 11+ years working in mental health. I bring a range of experience and perspective to my practice having worked in the counseling, non-profit, community advocacy, hospital and education spheres in both Canada and the United States.
Representation and connection mean a lot to me when it comes to mental health. Growing up with Caribbean parents in Toronto, Canada, mental health was not really talked about in my community. As an adult, I now have a special heart for working with individuals, especially members of the BIPOC community, as I believe everybody should have advocates and thought partners who “gets them”.
Those who know me describe me as calm, curious, and a great listener. I'm always learning, but my primary therapy modalities are Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) with touches of Internal Family Systems (IFS) and somatic experiencing. I like to bring humor and positivity into my work, as I believe laughter can be a great medicine.
I offer psychotherapy to adults and older teens, and my work is rooted in relational, compassion focused, and trauma informed practices (with a bit of humor as medicine). My niche is individuals in the 16 - 35+ age range navigating relationship issues, “adulting” complications, life and career transitions, trauma, self-exploration, self-esteem issues, stress and boundaries.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with loved ones including learning to be a parent to my almost 2 year old. You can often find me watching and playing pickup sports, playing board games, dreaming up vacation plans, and finding new shows to binge on Netflix!

How often would we meet?

This can depend on your need and availability! In situations more urgent and crisis oriented, typically weekly or bi-weekly is standard. If life for you is a bit more steady, less frequent is definitely an option after some time.

Do you offer in-person sessions?

At this time I only work virtually in the State of Texas

I am new to therapy, what is your style?

People I work with describe me as warm, easy to talk to and inquisitive. While our work is conversation based, I do like to bring in creativity (whiteboards, charting etc.) and actionable steps to ensure our time together is productive.

What can I expect in the initial consultation?

The initial consultation is our chance to get to know each other and ask questions. I will get to know what brings you to therapy, share what sessions will look like, and together we determine whether we both feel if it is a good fit moving forward!
Questions I may ask:
“Do you have any previous experiences with therapy?”
"What are some goals you'd like to work on?"
“How will we know if therapy is successful?”
This is your chance to connect before a first session, so don't be afraid to be yourself.
